Full Measures (Flight & Glory #1)

Goodreads Summary

Three knocks can change everything…

"She knew. That’s why Mom hadn’t opened the door. She knew he was dead."

Twenty years as an army brat and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn’t know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart.

Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next-door neighbor, and not to mention the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again. He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can’t deny their intense attraction.

Until Josh’s secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he’s worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.

My Thoughts
This book had me weeping from practically page one. The lost of Ember's father was tragic as it would be for anyone, but afterward she has to handle so much on her own. She is dealing with her loss as well as keeping her family from falling apart. In the months following her father's death she has to deal with more than most people ever should, but thankfully she had Josh there to help her out.

I loved that Ember and Josh started out as friends. Friends with an intense chemistry, but basically friends. He was there for her little brother, saved her sister, and stood by her when she needed him to. He never overstepped and seemed to understand that the relationship needed to progress when and if she was ready. It was a beautiful love story...until it was tragic again. Yes I saw it coming, but I think we were supposed to. Did you read the summary? I understood where she was coming from and felt her pain in the final third of the book, but I so desperately wanted them together.

Yes I guess I am being a little cryptic, but I don't want to spoil it. Just read this book!!
